Ram Gopal Varma‘s The Attacks of 26/11 trailer has crossed over 1 million YouTube views.
The filmmaker recently unveiled the first seven minutes of his film, depicting the start of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks.
“Very excited about the attacks of 26/11 launch event at 8pm at Leopold cafe tonight,” Varma announced before the launch of the film’s soundtrack. The director chose to unveil the project’s music at one of the key locations in South Mumbai affected by the attack. ‘Maula Maula’ song by Sukhwinder to be launched at the Leopold cafe tonight the 11th at 9.30pm same time as when the attack started on it,” he added. ‘Maula Maula’ marks the celebratory spirit thereby signifying that we won’t be cowed down.”Industry figures including Amitabh Bachchan, Sujoy Ghosh, Pritish Nandy and Gul Panag have praised the content, performances and music of the film.The Attacks of 26/11, starring Nana Patekar and Sanjeev Jaiswal, is released on March 1st. The Attacks of 26/11 is an upcoming Indian crime-thriller film, based on the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, the film is slated to have a worldwide release on 1 March 2013. The films stars Sanjeev Jaiswal who plays the role of terrorist Ajmal Kasab, with art direction by Uday Singh.The director, who had visited the Taj Mahal hotel with the then Chief Minister Vilasraoeshmukh and actor-son Ritesh Deshmukh soon after the 2008 attacks, had denied plans of a movie on the tragedy amid huge public and media outcry. But, later he decided to make the film. Under the art direction of Uday Singh a replica of Taj Hotel was created with a cost of 2.5 crore. After auditioning 500 applicants, RGV found an actor to play Ajmal Kasab, the prime accused terrorist in the 26/11 attack on Mumbai, in his film based on the same incident. Delhi boy Sanjeev Jaiswal was chosen to play the much controversial character. ‘The Attacks of 26/11’ profits will be donated to victims. Ram Gopal Varma had also asked policemen to watch 15-minute trailer of ‘The Attacks of 26/11’. The film is restricted to the night of the incident and has focused on the happenings between 9 pm to 1 am when Ajmal Kasab was caught. The film underwent some last-minute changes after Ajmal Kasab’s hanging on 21 November 2012. Earlier, it had an open ending. But news of 26/11 prime perpetrator Ajmal Kasab’s hanging has changed the climax.The attacks of 26/11 will detail every aspect of the carnage beginning with the terrorists taking over Amar solanki’s trawler ‘Kuber’. The shooting of the film completed on December 10, 2012 with last shot of the massacre at CST (Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus) station. The owner of Leopold Cafe plays himself in the film. The actors in the film have met the victims & done tremendous research on the subject.There were three important sources used for intense research of the film and those were the eyewitnesses, police statements and judgment.
